Mission Statement

The Religious Education programs of St. Charles Borromeo Parish are attentive to the spiritual formation of all members of the parish faith community.  At every level, we focus on catechesis, fellowship, service and prayer.  As a parish we welcome the people of God; we fulfill our baptismal promise to teach about God in the Catholic tradition; we encourage our community to live the Gospel in service to one another; and we celebrate together as one family in prayer and sacrament.

Students attending catechetical programs must live within our parish boundaries and be registered with the parish as well as the Religious Education Office.  Enrollment ends on August 7th; if you still need to register after that date, contact the R/E office to check on availaibility.  We do not offer on-line enrollment, but you may print the form.  Families new to St. Charles Borromeo catechetical programs are invited to call the R/E office for additional information, and also need to print out and complete this supplemental registration form for new families found under the Forms for R/E tab and will need to set up a meeting with Father Nnaso.

 Attendance Policy

Click here for a PDF file of the Attendance policy.

All absences are to be phoned in to the RE office before class begins. Voice messages are accepted. E-mails will also be accepted.  It is expected that all students and their families attend Mass as well as religious education class each week.

Children are expected to participate in each class session. All absences are to be phoned in, or e-mailed to, the RE office prior to the start of class. If there is a family emergency and your child cannot attend class, please call the Religious Education Office to find out how your child can make up a missed session.

The DRE will contact you if your child misses two classes in a row. If your child misses three total classes, the DRE will contact you and request a conference.  Homework assignments can be found on the web site, under the Homework tab of the Religious Education program.

Attendance Policy - 2nd Grade

Please keep in mind - during sacramental preparation years - children are only allowed one excused absence per semester. Additional absences are to be made up by attending a make-up session according to the schedule listed below. These arrangements need to be made ahead of time by calling the RE office, not the catechist.
2nd grade: make-up sessions allowed at the Sunday and Wednesday sessions

Attendance Policy - 9th Grade

Please keep in mind - during Confirmation preparation year - teens are only allowed one excused absence for the year.

 Requirements of Students and Parents

Click here for a PDF file of the Requirements.

Faith is both a gift of God and a human act by which the believer gives personal adherence to God who invites his/her response and freely assents to the whole truth that God has revealed. Faith is both a theological virtue given by God as grace, and an obligation which flows from the first commandment of God (from the CCC)

Faith is a process and it takes place in stages. Faith - our relationship and response to God - develops throughout our life time. There are 6 stages, and not all people go through all of the stages of faith development.

Whether you are an adult, teen, or child, matters of faith / spirituality cannot be measured as Pass and Fail. HOWEVER, you can fail any religious education program, class, or seminar if you do not fulfill all the requirements of the program.

What are the requirements of the religious education program at SCB?
1. Weekly attendance.
2. Making up absences beyond the excused 3 per year. 2nd grade is allowed one excused per semester (2 per year).  9th grade is allowed one per year.
3. Actively participating in classroom discussions.
4. Completion of homework assignments as listed on the parish web site and given by the catechist. Submitting assignments by due dates assigned by catechist.
5. Completion of first and second semester tests and reflection paper.
6. Attendance at prayer services and Reconciliation services.

We will fervently work with parents in ensuring each child's relationship with God deepens and grows while fulfilling the requirements.
