Mission Statement
The Religious Education programs of St. Charles Borromeo Parish are attentive to the spiritual formation of all members of the parish faith community. At every level, we focus on catechesis, fellowship, service and prayer. As a parish we welcome the people of God; we fulfill our baptismal promise to teach about God in the Catholic tradition; we encourage our community to live the Gospel in service to one another; and we celebrate together in prayer and sacrament.
2010-2011 Religious Education Schedule
Sunday classes begin on August 29, 2010; Wednesday classes begin on September 1, 2010.
Grades Kindergarten and 1st: Wednesday's class meets from 4:30 to 5:45pm; Sunday's class meets from 9:10 to 10:20am
Grades 2 - 7: Wednesday classes meet at 4:30pm to 5:45pm and 6:15pm to 7:30pm
Grades 2 - 7: Sunday classes meet from 9:10am to 10:20am
Grade 8: Wednesday's class meets from 7:30pm to 8:45pm at Dumoulin Farms
Grade 8: Sunday's class meets from 9:10am to 10:20am at SCB School
General Policies
Families must be registered parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Contact the parish office to obtain a parish registration form.
Students attending catechetical programs must be registered with the parish as well as the Religious Education Office. Enrollment ends on August 15th; if you still need to register, contact the R/E office to see which classroom have availaibility. Click on this link to download the Religious Education Registration Form. You cannot enroll on-line, but you may print the form. Families new to St. Charles Borromeo catechetical programs are invited to call the R/E office for additional information, and also need to print out and complete this supplemental registration form Additional Student Information.
Tuition for 2010/11
Sacramental Program
If you are enrolling your child in the sacramental program for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, add an additional $40.00 to the amount listed above.
Tuition Payment Options
Option 1: Early Bird Discount - expired 7/01/10 - Tuition and fees must be Paid-in-Full at time of enrollment to receive the discount. Contact the R.E. office to obtain the discount rate. No credit card payments accepted.
Option 3: 50% paid at time of enrollment, and 50% paid before November 1, 2010. No credit card payments will be accepted.
Hardship Situations
No child will be denied a religious education due to financial constraints. Hardship situations will be handled confidentially. Request a conference with Father Joe by calling 847-683-2391, ext. 17.
Class Sessions
Parents are given a choice of class times. Kindergarten and 1st grade classes are offered on Wednesday at 4:30pm and on Sunday at 9:10am. Classes for grades 2-7 are offered on Wednesday at 4:30 pm and again at 6:15 pm, and on Sunday at 9:10 am, provided we have a catechist available for the class. Classes for grade 8 are held on Wednesday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 9:10am. We reserve the right to limit the number of students per class. Class sizes will be limited to a minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 13 students (with the exception of 8th grade). Early registration is strongly encouraged.
Classes without catechists will be cancelled by August 16th. The children will be reassigned to other timeslots pending availability. Parents will be notified by August 17, 2010 if a re-assignment or cancellation is necessary.
Dropping Off Children for Class
It is expected that children will be dropped off for class on time. *For security reasons, all entry doors will be locked 10 minutes after classes have begun.* All children are to be brought to the Multipurpose Room to gather with their teachers and their class. For security reasons, parents cannot accompany their children to classrooms.
At the end of class, students in grades K-3 will be brought to the Multipurpose Room by their teachers. Students in these grades are to be picked up by their parents or older sibling. Students will be released only to their legal parent/guardian or older sibling unless we have written permission from one or both parents to release the student to another person. If there are special custody issues, parents are asked to provide information at registration.
Parent Handbook
A Parent Handbook is available from the R.E. office at any time. It contains much useful information, including: Curriculum and the role of parents; student attendance policy; discipline policy; dress code; visiting classrooms; and, items brought to class. No food may be brought to class except on the last class day prior to Christmas and on the last class day of the school year.
In the event of a weather or building emergency, families may:

- Listen to radio 670, 720 or 890 AM, or tune into TV CBS, NBC, WGN, FOX or CLTV or
- Call the Religious Education Office (847) 683-1536 for a voice mail message.
- Should a tornado warning occur immediately before dismissal, please do not call the school or go to the school to pick up your child. We will hold the children until it is safe and parents have arrived.
- In the event of non-weather-related emergencies, i.e. loss of heat, you will be contacted via telephone.
